Event Description:
The Women in Business Council is dedicated to offering education and networking opportunities for Women in Business. WIBC Mentorship Bootcamp, Presented by Lickstein Plastic Surgery is an opportunity for women facing challenges affecting their career or business to grow personally and professionally. The three-month Bootcamp will offer one-on-one mentorship paired with a virtual classroom with a focus on Leadership. Upon the completion of the course, participants will have gained valuable knowledge and skills to advance their careers while building a network of personal and professional contacts.

Alyson Seligman, speaker & blogger, @themodernsavvy
A blogger, speaker and public relations consultant, Alyson Seligman is passionate about empowering women to live authentically into who they are meant to be, putting a face to invisible illness and providing strategic brand consulting to area nonprofits. She has worked in communications for nearly 20 years, and for the past decade has led two companies: a PR company, The SBS Agency, and a life, style and motivational blog, The Modern Savvy.
 
Alyson -- who has a rare neurological condition and was suddenly paralyzed 10 years ago unsure of her future – also now speaks to women and businesses across the country about overcoming adversity and obstacles, invisible illness in the workplace, and more. What could have been the most devastating moment of her life has become her most defining, utilizing her voice to educate and empower.

Ava L. Parker, J.D., President, Palm Beach State College
Palm Beach State College President Ava L. Parker leads the County’s largest higher education institution with a strategic approach emphasizing innovation, student success, and business and community collaboration. Parker is the first female president in the history of the institution, which opened in 1933 as Florida’s first public community college. Under Parker’s leadership, the College is taking proactive, transformative measures to meet the evolving needs of our community and has recently added two new bachelor’s degree programs and established a cross-cultural equity institute with a vision to lead institutions worldwide in research, development, and implementation of culturally relevant practices to support successful outcomes for all students. 

Parker is engaged in higher education policy issues as a member of the governing board for the American Association of Community Colleges and the advisory board for the Community College Research Center which is a part of the Teacher’s College of Columbia University. Her leadership extends beyond higher education. She serves on the board of directors of Orchid Island Capital as well as the Board of Professional Holding Corp., the financial holding company for Professional Bank. She is a member of the Florida Council of 100, the Women’s International Leadership Forum, Leadership Florida Board, South Florida’s Orange Bowl Committee and on the board of the Central Palm Beach Chamber. 

Before joining Palm Beach State, Parker was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Florida Polytechnic University and served for more than a decade on the Florida Board of Governors of the State University System, the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees and general counsel at Edward Waters College.

Most recently, Parker was recognized as one of Florida’s Most Influential Business Leaders in Florida Trend’s 2020 Florida 500 issue and Palm Beach Illustrated has named her a returning member of the Palm Beach Top 100—a list of influential community and business leaders in Palm Beach County.


Lisa Collum, Owner of Top Score Writing, Inc., and Owner/Principal of Coastal Middle and High School 
Entrepreneur, educator and proud mom of four, Lisa Collum has dedicated her life to inspiring others. Through Top Score Writing and Coastal Middle/High School, she helps students at all levels master key writing skills. Lisa regularly presents at conferences and events on topics related to business development, work/life balance, overcoming obstacles, female empowerment and childhood education.

While working in a Title I school system, Lisa identified a need for better instruction. So, with $100 and almost no business experience, she founded and grew Top Score Writing into a million-dollar venture. Today the company specializes in writing-specific curriculum for grades 2-12. It is the one and only program specifically designed to prepare students for various state assessments. The curriculum has been adopted nationally by hundreds of public, private, and charter schools, as well as several homeschool organizations—positively impacting tens of thousands of students.

Lisa Collum holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Education. She purchased Coastal/Middle School in 2015 and turned it into a 501c3 nonprofit in 2019.

Felicia Rodriguez, Co-anchor, WPBF 25 News at 5, 6 and 11pm, 
Emmy Award winning journalist
Felicia is a Native New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents. Her family later moved to South Florida when she was a teenager. She is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Telecommunications. Felicia is a proud Florida Gator, who loves college football! She also received her Meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.

Felicia joined WPBF 25 News in 1998 and has spent more than 23 years covering the stories and issues that matter most to South Floridians. In 2019, Felicia was honored with an Esperanza Award for her dedication and leadership in the community by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County. She was also named Miss July in The Women of Palm Beach County 2020 Calendar benefiting Furry Friends Adoption Clinic and Ranch.

Before coming to West Palm Beach, Felicia lived and worked in Panama City Beach as a reporter and morning news anchor. Felicia and David have been married for 10 years. They have
6 year old Mia.  Felicia is also a stepmom to Emily and Rachel. She is very active in a number of community charities and can often be found hosting local events.

Upon the completion of the course, participants will have gained valuable knowledge and skills to advance their careers while building a network of personal and professional contacts.
 
WHY?
To offer growth and support to a female businessperson.  We will:
  1. Identify career inhibitors in her life and work
  2. Create a strategy to overcome the various career inhibitors
  3. Help her develop leadership skills for advancing her career
  4. Acquire concrete, technical, computer and presentation skills to either re-enter the workforce or build her business skills
  5. Instill confidence and provide a business support network
  6. Help her reach their fullest potential
WHO can participate?
  • Woman member (or future member) of the PBNCC must have at least 2 of the below:
  • Women-owned business
  • Younger Woman/Young Professional beginning her career or business
  • Women reentering the workforce
  • Women wanting to advance her career
  • Women leaders working in the nonprofit sector
