WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (July 22, 2021) --- Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County announced Peter Eckstein, a nationally-acclaimed innovator and collaborator in educational fields related to Judaism, Israel and technology, has been named the Vice President of Jewish Education. This role includes serving as the professional leader of the Friedman Commission for Jewish Education, the community’s center for Jewish education which partners with synagogues, religious schools, and other community institutions to enrich and strengthen Jewish life and education throughout the Palm Beaches.

“Peter has an incredibly impressive 30-year career in Jewish education in the Palm Beaches, including the last three years at Federation where he continues to innovate, adapt and plan for the future,” said Jim Baldinger, Chair of Federation’s Commission of Jewish Education Advisory Council. “In just a few years, Peter has led numerous successful efforts related to Jewish education as well as Israel programming and educational technology and innovation. He is the ideal professional leader to build a world-class Jewish educational environment in our fast-growing community.”

Eckstein’s accomplishments include leading Israel community engagement initiatives; teaching adults on a wide variety of subjects related to Judaism and Israel; designing and teaching professional development courses; integrating digital technology into congregational school programs; creating experiential school-wide, values-based curricula and Jewish programming for pre-adolescent boys; and developing Muslim-Jewish interfaith youth programs, among others.

Eckstein also has chaired several prominent national education conferences, including the Conference for the Advancement of Jewish Education, and maintains longstanding relationships with local and national partner agencies, clergy, religious schools and other community organizations.
Baldinger also noted Eckstein’s meaningful and trusted partnerships are of great value.

“Peter impressed us with his plans to forge and enhance collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with existing and new community partners,” said Baldinger. “He shared his aspiration to use assessment tools and data analysis to strengthen our relationships with Jewish learners. He envisions targeted outreach efforts to broaden our educational footprint to an array of interests, ages and geographies as well as emphasized diversity and inclusivity in our educational practice. We are thrilled to have Peter in this new role.”

As for Eckstein, he said it is an honor to continue his career with Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County.

“I’m incredibly eager to explore innovative new ways we can deliver Jewish education to learners of all ages, backgrounds and educational needs,” shared Eckstein. “We are also committed to increasing our reach to our community’s growing demographic of interfaith families to help them engage in Jewish life and learning, while also providing our entire community opportunities to connect and engage with Israel in ways that are meaningful to them.”

Baldinger further shared, “Peter has the spirit of an innovator and always looks to raise the bar. It is for this and so many reasons that I have full confidence he will bring the entire Palm Beaches’ Jewish learning experience to the next level.”
