We are looking for Breast Cancer Survivors to join Team SOS PBC (Save Our Sisters Palm Beach County) Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team. Palm Beach County’s First and Only Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team.
Our Mission: To promote a healthy, active lifestyle and provide organized opportunities for physical fitness, wellness education, and psycho-social empowerment among Breast Cancer Survivors and their supporters through the sport of dragon boating.
Team SOS PBC members are from all walks of life and range in age from 30s to 70s with varied interests and fitness levels. Each of us is a powerful example that women can lead a full and vigorous life after treatment for breast cancer. SOS PBC offers an active, health-giving, life affirming opportunity for breast cancer survivors. We are a survivor group whose focus is on living, rather than on the disease that brought us together.
No experience necessary—we will train you!

Ballet Palm Beach Company and Trainee Audition
Ballet Palm Beach seeks company dancers (35-week contract) and trainees for the 2018/2019 season and will hold an invitation-only audition on April 3, 2018. Trainee candidates (ages 16-22) also have the option to attend the Summer Intensive audition on April 3, 2018 at 4pm. Business Savvy Women's Forum
Business Savvy Women is a Forum where professional business women come together in a constructively challenging setting to discuss a range of issues that arise in their business and professional environment.
The objective of the Forum is to empower professional business women to develop and execute solutions to overcome the challenges they face in their business or professional environment. In practical terms, women will be able to draw from the wealth of knowledge in the room to develop and execute innovative solutions to successful resolve their challenges.
Each Forum is presented by the Women in Business Council of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce will be facilitated by Cheryl Gowdie, Business Coach. This will be in accordance with a set of protocols designed to create a thought-provoking, confidential and non-judgmental environment.
The Forum is targeted for professional business women who have acquired a level of experience and expertise that will add value to the group.

Astronomy Nights
Our Astronomy Nights program is offered once a month based on the activity of the night sky. Aside from learning about the stars and planets, this program also touches on light pollution and sky glow, encouraging guests to increase their awareness of their impact on the environment. The night will begin with a seminar led by the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches, featuring highlights of the current night sky and end with a peer through powerful telescopes and binoculars to get a closer look.

Join our staff on a 2 mile trek through the 120-acre Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area discovering a history shaped by nature. Program is open to adults and children-minimum age 5, ages 13 & under must be accompanied by an adult that is at least 18 years old. The Importance of Marine Mammal Standing Response
Since 1999, MMRC’s Marine Mammal Rescue team has served as a marine mammal stranding first-responder under authorization of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southeast Region. HBOI’s primary response areas are along the Indian River Lagoon and Atlantic Ocean of Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin Counties. This talk will discuss the work that the team conducts and review multiple case studies of dolphins and whales that the organization has responded to over the years.

Young Professionals Development Luncheon: Millennials in the Workplace

Announcing our speaker: Wendy DeCampos, Employee Experience & Human Resources Lead from Levatas will be the featured speaker for our Millennials in the Workplace luncheon on April 12th!
Wendy DeCampos is the Employee Experience and Human Resources Lead for Levatas, a digital-transformation agency, which she joined in 2012. Within her role, she directs workforce planning, performance management and compensation, compliance, employee relations, learning and development, and also performs the functional HR tasks of payroll and benefits. Earlier in her career, Wendy played various roles in corporate communications and public relations, working mostly with government agencies and pharmaceutical companies in Sydney and Washington, D.C., from where she hails. She holds a Master’s degree in international public health from the University of Sydney, a B.S. in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a certificate in Professional Human Resources (PHR). Outside of work, Wendy enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and learning new cultures.

Joey LaCroix, Director of Brand & Consumer Strategy, brings global agency experience in digital strategy and communications planning to Levatas. Since joining the company in 2013, he has played various roles across account management, market research, client solutions, and business development. Over the past decade, he has worked with Fortune 500 companies, tackling projects across media planning, market research, and brand strategy.
After starting his career at Ketchum in Beijing, Joey joined the national planning team for Burger King at Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, the same year they were named "Agency of the Year" by Adweek and Ad Age. He then moved to New York City and became part of IBM’s global planning team with Ogilvy and Mindshare, working on the first iterations of the IBM Watson campaign. Shifting to Omnicom’s PHD Media, Joey expanded marketing initiatives for Hyatt Hotels, as well as GlaxoSmithKline’s CPG products. More recently, he supervised marketing campaigns for AMC Network’s hit shows, helping grow The Walking Dead into the largest cable drama in television history.
He holds a BAS degree in marketing from Fairfield University, and lives in Delray Beach with his wife. Outside of the office, he enjoys traveling, craft beer, and running.
Levatas is comprised of 75 percent millennial employees with three of the five executive team leaders being under the age of 35 as well.

PUBLIC KAYAK TOUR-FULLERTON ISLAND & SAWFISH BAY
Check out our public kayak tour to Fullerton Island and Sawfish Bay Park on Friday, April 13th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Discover Jupiter’s beautiful waterways on this naturalist led tour. Launching from Burt Reynold’s park, guests will journey to the recently restored Fullerton Island and then make their way towards Sawfish Bay Park to check out some local wildlife. Don’t miss out on this exciting kayaking excursion! All equipment is provided. Interested participants should bring water, water shoes and anything that will make them comfortable in nature. The River Center continues to collaborate with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary “Flotilla 52” to provide a series of Boating Safely Classes targeted specifically to young boaters in our community. These classes are provided through a generous sponsorship by the AustinBlu Foundation, a not-for-profit dedicated to raising awareness and promoting educational programs to improve boater safety. There is no cost for this class, however there is a deposit required to reserve a seat. The deposit of $10 will be refunded in full to all students who complete the class. Recommended for children 12 years and up.

Great American CleanUp
Join Lynne Wells and her group of Blue Friends on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. for the monthly beach clean-up. Following 1-hour of cleaning the beach, join us for a light breakfast sponsored by Whole Foods Market in Palm Beach Gardens. Bring a bucket to collect the trash and garden gloves if you have them. Help us keep the very beach that our turtles call home free from trash and litter. Complimentary coffee by Oceana Coffee will be served.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is one of the nation’s premiere environmental and adventure film festivals in North America being hosted in our own backyard. These international short films are a call to action! Soul-stirring stories and grand sweeping vistas give us a sense of place and what it means to be responsible stewards of the earth. They illustrate not only the challenges facing our planet but the work communities are doing to protect the environment and the places we love. They also portray the magnetic draw of nature and the adventurous side of the human spirit. We will once again be joined by local community organizations who will share with you how you can get involved in loving and caring for our earth. Films will be shown at the waterfront Lighthouse on the “big screen.” Food, sodas, beer & wine will be available for purchase. Live musical performance. Secrets of the Sargasso Sea
This lecture will share a number of “secrets” about this mysterious oceanic realm, some of which date back to the historic voyage of Christopher Columbus. The lecturer, Brian Lapointe, Ph.D., will describe the discovery of Sargassum by early explorers, the phenomenon of the “Bermuda Triangle” and the amazing community of invertebrates and fishes supported by Sargassum “weedlines.” Professor Lapointe will show outtakes of a documentary of the Sargassum community that he and NHK Broadcasting (Tokyo, Japan) collaborated on in 1997. He will close by describing his recent studies of the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the “essential fish habitat” provided by pelagic Sargassum.

Join the River Center on Tuesday, April 17th for our last Home School Workshop of the season! Our April workshop is entitled “Animal Behavior” and will include an up close and personal look into unique animal traits and behaviors. You won’t want to miss this great program! It is with great pleasure that we announce our Inaugural Palm Beach North Valor and Community Service Awards to be given to First Responder honorees within Palm Beach North. The selected awards recipients will be honored at the breakfast to be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Riviera Beach Marina Event Center.
The Valor Award will be awarded to first responders who demonstrates exceptional courage above and beyond the call of duty, regardless of personal safety, in order to save another person's life or protect them from harm.

Jimmy Patronis serves the citizens of the state of Florida as the state's Chief Financial Officer, State Fire Marshal, and member of the Florida Cabinet. Jimmy Patronis is a native Floridian born and raised in Panama City. He earned his associate degree in restaurant management from Gulf Coast Community College and a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida State University. He is a partner in a family-owned seafood restaurant called Captain Anderson's that will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017. His public service career began with experience as an intern in the Florida Senate and the United Kingdom's House of Commons. Following his college graduation, Governor Lawton Chiles appointed him to the Florida Elections Commission, and he was later reappointed by Governor Jeb Bush.
He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014, representing his hometown region in the Florida Panhandle. He was appointed to serve on Florida's Public Service Commission, as well as the Constitution Revision Commission, which meets once every twenty years to propose changes to the state constitution.
He is recognized for outstanding leadership in his hometown of Panama City and throughout Florida. Committed to active civic engagement and business development, he has chaired the Greater Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development Council, served on the board of the Bay County Economic Development Alliance, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Bay County Chapter of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, and as national president for the Florida Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. He is a former trustee of the Gulf Coast Medical Center, and former director of the Bay Medical Center's Foundation and Gulf Coast Community College Foundation Board.
He was instrumental in the establishment of the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City and has served as chairman and a board member of Bay County-Panama City International Airport and Industrial District.
He and wife Katie are proud parents to two sons, Jimmy Theo III and John Michael.

Team SOS PBC members are from all walks of life and range in age from 30s to 70s with varied interests and fitness levels. Each of us is a powerful example that women can lead a full and vigorous life after treatment for breast cancer. SOS PBC offers an active, health-giving, life affirming opportunity for breast cancer survivors. We are a survivor group whose focus is on living, rather than on the disease that brought us together.

Roger Amidon has served as general manager of Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa since 2012. Marriott International named him “Franchised General Manager of the Year” for its Eastern Region Full Service Hotels/Resorts in 2015.
Amidon is responsible for the successful operation of Palm Beach County’s only AAA Four-Diamond all-suite beachfront hotel, which, at 193 rooms, boasts a prime location on its own private beach on Singer Island, and amenities including the acclaimed 3800 Ocean restaurant and the elegant Condé Nast award-winning SiSpa. Under Amidon’s expert leadership, Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island was named one of Marriott International’s “Full Service Hotels of the Year” in the Eastern Region for 2015.
A longtime Palm Beach resident, Amidon has worked 25 years with the Marriott Brand and near 30 years in the hospitality sector. Prior to joining the resort, he served for three-years as Executive Director of the Tourist Development Council of Palm Beach County. As head of the county’s tourism development efforts, Amidon focused on promoting and managing tourism-related agencies and activities in Palm Beach County. Prior to that, he served Marriott in roles including Area General Manager for Marriott Palm Beach Gardens, Boca Raton Renaissance and Fort Lauderdale Marriott North. His regional tenure included general manager positions for the Delray Beach Marriott and Sheraton at CityPlace. Prior to migrating to Florida from the Northeast, he managed a number of other hotels, including independent ski resorts.
Amidon provides leadership and involvement in a variety of industry and community organizations. Current and past positions include: Executive Director of the Tourist Development Council; Chairman of the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau; President of the Palm Beach County Hotel & Lodging Association.; President of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (Palm Beach Chapter); and board memberships with Singer Island Civic Association and Loggerhead Marine Life Center, Riviera Beach Business Council, and Coalitions to Senior Leaders and Interns.
When not working or volunteering, Amidon enjoys golf, fishing, travel with his family and indulging in his passion for classic cars. Amidon who has been married to Tina for 28 years has two children and resides in Tequesta.
