Feb 12 - Mar 7 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach & Martin Counties

4th Annual Celebration of Champions
Big Hearts for Little Hands

West Palm Beach, Florida: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties (BBBSPBMC) will be hosting the Fourth Annual Celebration of Champions on Friday, March 6, 2015.  The red carpet awards dinner will be held at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, beginning at 5 o’ clock p.m.  This year’s Keynote Speaker is Innovation Teacher, Mr. Todd LaVogue.  LaVogue has been selected for the third consecutive year as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIE Expert)!  He was the only Palm Beach County teacher recognized this year among 800 teachers from 100 counties around the globe.

The Celebration of Champions Awards Dinner recognizes an outstanding citizen and notable local business individual in the community.  In both categories, the individuals are socially and financially vested in changing young lives.  “One of the great pleasures of my position is witnessing the amazing impact our programs achieve with children.  This enjoyable opportunity is closely followed by having the ability to recognize those that help BBBS of Palm Beach and Martin Counties accomplish our mission.  We would not have the gift of changing young lives for the better, forever if not for our awesome volunteers, donors, funders and mentors.  Celebration of Champions permits our agency to graciously and befittingly acknowledge some of these incredible supporters” William Bee, Jr., Big Brother and CEO.

Awards will be presented for the Teen Big of the Year, Big Brother of the Year, Big Sister of the Year and Business Mentor of the Year.  Mentors, supporters, donors and volunteers enthusiasts of BBBSPBMC will also be highlighted during the evening.  The donation you make by purchasing ticket(s) will not disappoint!  Admission for early registration through February 27 is $125 per person and $150 thereafter.  Upon entry, guests will receive two complementary drinks, Hors d'oeuvre followed by a sumptuous dinner.  Guests should be prepared to be entertained by amazing talents and a chance to win items from the BIG and Silent Auction.

Mar 5 Midtown - Music On the Plaza
Music On the Plaza is back! On Thursday, January 8, Midtown begins its popular free music series, Music On The Plaza, running each Thursday from 6:00–8:00pm. The outdoor concerts run for 12 weeks, providing audiences with new, exciting, and carefully selected local, regional, and national talent.

Kicking off the 2015 season is South Florida piano-pop act, The Jacob Jeffries Band. Jacob is one of the area’s award-winning favorite original artists with the ability to write and perform feel-good music -- think The Beatles, Ben Folds, and Tom Petty.  Other acts in January include The Matt Farr Band playing soulful rock, The Screaming J’s from NC playing boogie boogie piano and Ancient Sun from Orlando playing trippy eclectic groove rock.

Attendees are encouraged to enjoy food and beverages from Midtown restaurants Christopher’s Kitchen, Chipotle, J. Alexanders, Saito's and Cantina Laredo. Christopher’s Kitchen will offer discounts on beer and wine, other specials will be announced on the night.

The free concerts attract an all-ages crowd. "We have seen an increase in young families attending over the years. They bring their young children to listen and dance to the music before bedtime,” says Belle Forino, Marketing Manager of Midtown.

To celebrate the first show of the season, Midtown will have goody bags for children under the age of 5 and free face painting from 6:00-7:30pm. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and shoes for dancing. Parking is free. Midtown is located at 4801 PGA Blvd Palm Beach Gardens. We are on the north side of the road between I-95 and the Florida Turnpike. More information can be found on the Midtown website: midtownpga.com

Mar 7 Florida Cancer Specialists Havana Nights
Havana Nights, the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation’s first major event in West Palm Beach is only 4 weeks away!  But we need your help.  During 2014, the foundation gave away almost a half a million dollars in financial assistance to individuals undergoing treatment for cancer by funding nonmedical assistance to individuals in our community who needed financial support. This included rent, mortgage, utilities and car payments.  The Foundation provides financial assistance to any qualified  adult patient undergoing cancer treatment in the state of Florida.

Last year, our region  and our patients were the recipients  of over 32,000 dollars in financial assistance.

This year, more than ever, the foundation is depending on the success of its special events and fundraising initiatives to ensure its ability to continue to meet the increasing needs of those battling cancer.   Please support the Foundation by:

Mar 12 Digital Marketing for Small Business Event Series: Offline & Online Consumer Engagement

The Small Business Advisory Council is proud to host the third event in the "Digital Marketing for Small Business Event Series," on Thursday, March 12th at Florida Atlantic University. This event will feature an insightful presentation by Sherra Sewell from Sherra Sewell Marketing & Promotions about Offline & Online Consumer Engagement.

As a veteran strategist and content writer, Sherra has strived to bridge the gap between online and offline marketing. Today's effective marketing and advertising is all about engagement. So how are today's consumers behaving in the modern multi-media era?

Are they still watching TV? Yes.
Do they pay attention to billboards? Yes.
Are they on Facebook? Most likely.
Are they using a tablet or mobile phone to access the internet? You bet.

So how do you make all these channels work together for you business? And what's the right message to send? In this workshop, we'll explore some effective engagement strategies that are working for other businesses and some that might work for your own.

Mar 12 Midtown - Music On the Plaza

Mar 26 Women in Business Luncheon with Sheila Mains, Founder of Brownie Brittle
The Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, Women in Business Council present their quarterly luncheon on Thursday, March 26th at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott. We are thrilled to have guest speaker, Sheila G. Mains, Founder of Brownie Brittle?

About Sheila G. Mains & Brownie Brittle
It all started in 1992 when Sheila G. Mains was laid off from her CFO position at an industrial advertising agency. Rather than jump back into the world of accounting, she decided to follow her passion ?? baking. She perfected her grandmother?s brownie recipe in her home oven, then leased a small commercial kitchen and began selling platters of brownies and gift baskets to local corporations and retail stores.

Two years later, business was booming. Then came the call of a lifetime. An executive chef at a major Florida theme park dialed 1-800-Brownie and ordered 37,000 of Sheila G?s brownies. Overnight, Sheila went from delivering platters to shipping pallets of her rich, fudgy brownies.

Since then, Sheila G?s signature brownies have been featured at Disney World?s theme park, bakeries and catered events. Her Cookie Dough Brownie became the best-selling dessert at MGM Studios a year later. She also created Dalmatian brownies, in honor of Disney?s 1996 release of 101 Dalmatians, as well as an exclusive Blondie Brownie for Epcot Center.

Once the brownie business was cooking, Sheila turned her attention to creating her dream snack ?? the crunchy corner pieces that every brownie lover loves. It took almost a decade to create Brownie Brittle, but her persistence paid off. Sales of Sheila G?s Original Brownie Brittle are nothing short of meteoric. From 200,000 bags in 2011 to 18 million bags in 2014, these thin pieces of brownie batter with the satisfying crunch took the snack food industry by surprise.

And with only 120 calories and 3 grams of fat per serving, this all-natural snack simply flies off the shelves. Brownie Brittle is available in Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel, Toffee Crunch and Mint Chocolate Chip, and is sold online (BrownieBrittle.com) and at major retailers throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, Korea and the Caribbean.

Mar 27 hYPe Luncheon featuring Chad Jenkins

hYpe, the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce's committee of young professionals will host their quarterly luncheon on Friday, March 27th at Seasons 52 featuring Chad Jenkins, a young entrepreneur, former Army quarterback, decorated military veteran and former FBI agent.

*Seating is limited. We strongly encourage guests to register in advance.

About Chad Jenkins

Chad Jenkins founded Jenkins Group to respond to the diverse security needs of the public and private sector. His service to his nation started at 17 years of age and has spanned across three decades. Chad's passion for protecting his country and its citizens is paramount.

After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point and leading the Black Knights as Army’s quarterback, Chad was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the United States Army. Upon successful completion of Ranger School, Airborne School, and Air Assault School, Chad deployed with the 10th Mountain Division to Iraq for one year.

Following his return to U.S. soil, Chad joined the 75th Ranger Regiment, the most dedicated and lethal fighting force the U.S. Army has to offer. Chad led Rangers during three more deployments to Iraq as a Platoon Leader and Ground Force Commander. In total, Chad deployed four times and was awarded three Bronze Star Medals for his dedication and service to his country.

When he departed the military, Chad was recruited to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with his counterterrorism expertise. He was the class academic valedictorian at the FBI Academy. After Quantico, Chad was assigned to the South Florida Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) as a Special Agent. His impact on several high-profile cases led to the successful disruption of potential acts of terrorism.

Chad is co-subject of the book, ‘All American: Two Young Men, The 2001 Army-Navy Game And The War They Fought In Iraq’ by New York Times bestselling Author Steve Eubanks, which released in the Fall of 2013. With the opportunity to launch his own organization, Chad sought God’s will to pursue this next chapter of his life. He continues to reside in Florida.
