Palm Beach Gardens, FL – Ballet Palm Beach opens its season Friday, October 24th and Sunday, October 26th with the romantic masterpiece, Giselle. Since its Paris premiere in 1841, Giselle has become one of the most popular ballets of all time. Through stunning classical dance and music by Adolphe Adam, the ballet takes the audience through the emotions of romance, betrayal, and then forgiveness. It is a story of a young peasant girl, Giselle, who is seduced and betrayed by a prince named Albrecht. The betrayed Giselle goes mad and dies of a broken heart. Her spirit joins the supernatural Wilis; women scorned before their wedding day and doomed to take their revenge for eternity. In the end, Giselle forgives Albrecht and protects him from the vengeful Wilis.
“Giselle is one of the greatest ballet classics; always evolving and giving something new to the audience.” said ballet mistress Claudia Cravey. “The role of Giselle requires brilliant dance technique. The dancer must transform from a naive peasant girl, experiencing the emotions of love, betrayal, and insanity, into an ethereal spirit. That’s a lot of emotions!”
Lily Ojea and Rogelio Corrales will dance the roles of Giselle and Albrecht. Other key roles include Myrta, the unrelenting Queen of the Wilis played by Madeleine Miller; and Hilarion, the suspicious gamekeeper played by Marshall Levin. Tickets begin at $15 and can be purchased at balletpalmbeach.org or at the Eissey Campus Theatre box office at 561.207.5900.
In this uproariously funny adventure set at a rural Georgia fishing lodge, a pathologically shy man adopts a persona as a non-English-speaking foreigner in an attempt to avoid conversation. Before long, hilarity ensues as an outrageous group of characters reveals all and he finds himself privy to their secrets and scandals. This comedy has become an American classic filled with twists and turns and heart-warming revelations. Visit www.jupitertheatre.org for showtimes; tickets start at $54. Phone: (561) 575-2223.
