Moderator Alyssa Freeman Executive Director, Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County
Alyssa Freeman moved to South Florida in 2008 where she began her career with the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, serving as its executive director since 2019. Alyssa was born and raised in Southeast Michigan, where she grew up near the water enjoying boating, fishing, and water sports every summer. With an immense love of the outdoors, Alyssa values conservation and preserving nature for the benefit of future generations. She is a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a focus in public relations. Alyssa graduated with her MBA in Organizational Leadership from Ashford University. She is part of the Leadership Palm Beach County Class of 2020, Leadership West Palm Beach Class of 2023, and currently serving on boards for CareerSource Palm Beach County, Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, Junior Achievement of Palm Beach and Treasure Coast, Discover the Palm Beaches, and Barky Pines Animal Rescue and Sanctuary.
Panelists Austin Schell CEO, PORT 32 Marinas Austin Schell is the CEO of PORT 32 Marinas and serves on its Board of Directors. Austin believes that great customer experience starts with the people of PORT 32 and our desire to bring PORT 32 members an unparalleled level of service within the marine industry.
Austin has held many executive leadership positions over his career. His diverse industry experience includes client services, transportation and logistics, consumer healthcare, environmental services, and real estate. Prior to PORT 32, Austin was the President and COO of XOJET, the largest on-demand private jet services platform in North America, backed by TPG and Mubadala Investment Company. During his six-year leadership tenure at XOJET, Austin and his team of talented colleagues delivered industry-leading growth and profitability to investors and built a high-performance, customer-centric company culture. Other senior executive roles include COO of Modern Fertility and CFO of Wildlands. Prior to his experience building businesses as an operating executive, Austin served as a private equity investment professional at Parthenon Capital in San Francisco. He began his career in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in New York City.
Austin is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia. When he’s not working or at home with family, Austin is often found cheering on his kids’ sports teams, traveling to see old friends, or offshore fishing.
Dr. Jim Sullivan Executive Director, Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute
Dr. Jim Sullivan has been the Executive Director of Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute since 2018. Prior to this, Sullivan held senior positions in academia and industry, both as research faculty at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography, and as a senior oceanographer for the company Sea-Bird Scientific. Sullivan earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in biological oceanography with specializations in phytoplankton physiology and ecology, as well as bio-optics and biophysics from URI’s Graduate School of Oceanography. He is particularly interested in improving our scientific understanding of harmful algal blooms and how to better inform the public, water management agencies and policy makers of critical harmful algal bloom science and water quality issues. Sullivan has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and several patents to his credit. He currently serves on Florida’s Blue Green Algae Task Force and as Council Chair of the Florida Institute of Oceanography.

Cancellations under 48 hours prior to the event, will NOT receive event credit in order to solidify attendance numbers with the event venue. All cancellation notices received BEFORE 48 hours (2 business days) prior to the event will be given an event credit of equal value. Event credits will be applied upon request and are good for up to 1 year from the purchase date. There are NO REFUNDS.
