The Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce presents Business Before Hours Wednesday, August 18, 2010. The breakfast will feature presentations from, Congressman Ron Klein, Bill Johnson, Director for Palm Beach County Emergency Management and County Assistant Administrator Vince Bonvento. Klein, Johnson and Bonvento will discuss Hurricane and Disaster Preparedness for businesses as well as the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
Congressman Ron Klein, who represents Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, was sworn in to the United States Congress on January 4th, 2007. An experienced leader with a solid record of service, Ron has developed a reputation for working in a bipartisan manner to find common sense solutions that will improve the lives of Florida’s families and businesses.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1957 to a public school teacher and a small business owner, Ron learned early on from his parents that with a good education and solid work ethic, one can accomplish almost anything. Ron graduated from The Ohio State University in 1979, and received his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1982. That same year, Ron married the former Dori Dragin, and together they moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1985, where he continued practicing law and involving himself in various community service activities.
Motivated to help improve the quality of life in South Florida, Ron ran for and was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992. During his tenure in the House, Ron built an impressive reputation for his work improving education, toughening criminal justice laws, providing greater access to healthcare, and expanding use of technology in the public and private sectors. He was elected to the State Senate in 1996, where he earned the positions of Minority Whip and Senate Democratic Leader.
Ron and his wife Dori reside in Boca Raton. They are the proud parents of two children, Brian, 24 and Lauren, 21
Prior to joining Palm Beach County, Bill Johnsonworked for two years as the assistant director of the Broward County Emergency Management Division where he was instrumental in reconfiguring the entire emergency management program to become more “ICS-centric;” both physically and procedurally. Projects under his leadership included a major redraft of the county’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Before working with BrowardCounty, he served for three years as a consultant.
Johnson was also the director of the Emergency Management Program for the Florida market for URS Corporation. Prior to that, he served as the assistant director for the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for nearly 11 years. Some of his key accomplishments with OEM included.
Vince Bonvento, a Palm Beach County native, attended local schools and is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University. From 1971 - 2005 he served Palm Beach County as an Accountant with the Clerk of the Courts, then under the Board of County Commissioners he served as the Deputy County Administrator, and currently as an Assistant County Administrator and Director of the Public Safety Department for Palm Beach County.
He is involved with numerous professional organizations, including but not limited to, the Board of Directors of Comprehensive Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs, Inc. (CARP) for 25 years, current Board Member of The Lord’s Place, Board of Directors of United Way of Palm Beach and is a graduate of Leadership Palm Beach County.
He co-authored the county ordinance that established the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission. He is responsible for countywide disaster planning, management and response. And authored the resolution which established the Countywide Anti-Terrorism Committee which, when established was the first committee of its kind in the State of Florida.
